Logger's Breakfast with Dad

Had a wonderful pancake breakfast with our dads to end our Tall Tale Unit!  What a success.  We shared our Tall Tale stories and characters.  We took a picture of us with our dad and then wrote about it.  Okay now getting ready to focus on March!

Big week ahead!

This is going to be a big week.
Tuesday we have our "logger's breakfast" for all our 1st graders and their dads in honor of the Tall Tale Unit.  This is always such a blast with dads there for a change.  We cook pancakes and have juice.  It's a "sticky" mess with the syrup but worth every effort.  If you'd like to see the lessons I teach just click on TpT and check it out.  I will post pictures soon.

Dr. Seuss Unit is on the Loose!!

Finally completed my Dr. Suess Unit for next week.
I am so excited because as I wrote the unit I put items that could be used in the Daily Five rotations:  word work, writing, guided reading!  Of course I also added a math activity because it is my favorite.  Click here to see the Unit.  Then of course there is a "freebie" for you!  Dr. Seuss loved hats so Click here and enjoy this little hat activity with your class!

Freebie and a Smile!!

Can you figure out which student sees things a little differently?
You just have to smile!
I have just posted...better late than never...a George Washington activity packet.  I think you will like it!

Click here to visit this item at Teachers Pay Teachers.
And the "freebie" (click here) is my favorite game of Scoot.  I just think it is an incredible way to get your class up and moving while learning, cooperating with peer and forming assessment!

Finally I just love RazKids and my class loved listening and viewing this story on our SMART Board.  Following the story we completed a comprhension page that I doctored up from the Raz Kids materials.

Happy Birthday George Washington!

We have had so much fun today getting ready to celebrate George Washington's birthday tomorrow!
Brainpop Jr. has a delightful and informative FREE video for you to watch.  Just click this link and it will take you there.   George Washington
We gathered what we knew and what we learned.

We read a poem about George and then wrote about it.
We put our spelling words for the week on WORDLE!

We made words from Washington.

If you give a teacher a class...

she or he will certainly get busy creating great things for their classroom.
This week my class is going to be busy reading all the Laura Numeroff stories.  This is always such a great unit.  I have a little "freebie" for you at TpT on graphing the students favorite stories.  If you like this I also have all of my reading responses for each book in a packet at this TpT location.  As soon as I figure this blog out I will love to share more.  I am new at this and it is still a puzzle but hey today I got my first follower!  I'M SO EXCITED!

Getting ready for St.Patrick's Day

Hi all I hope you will visit my store at Teachers Pay Teachers for a great March "freebie".  It's a little St. Patrick's Day "Scoot".
I am already busy preparing for the grand March room transformation.  You gotta love the end of every month as we get ready for the "change over"!

Monkey Business!!

I just love teaching reading and math through the Five Little Monkey stories.  These two little characters are fun for the children  to make to enhance this unit. Soon as I figure out how to embed materials in my blog I will put the patterns up for you.   If you go to my store on  Teachers Pay Teachers  you will find a week long unit filled with activities for the monkey theme.

Such a deal!

Found these boards at Target "dollar" center.  They were $2.50 but well worth every penny! The boards are magnetic white boards and perfect for holding lists at the Writing Center or words at the Word Work Center.
As students are working you can write notes on them and they can easily be erased!  You gotta love Target's Dollar Bins!

February 14th, Valentine's Day

I am set for the big day!
Each student locker is decorated with "Whooo do you love?" from Glyph Girls.  I think they are a "hoot"!!
The wreath on the door will greet the children as it has each day this school year.  It is an OLD grapevine wreath.  I add bows to match the month and pencils.  Easy but cute.
Then here we go...Valentine's Day!
Despite the fact that everything is set to go we had a "Late Start" soooo... I wait!
The students each created Valentine boxes to put Valentines in.
In our word center each have a set of colorful cards to make words from Valentines.
In math we will be solving number stories using candy hearts as well as graphing with them.
A student favorite is making a Rebus Sentence.  Some will make many!
Before the party we will complete another Glyph Girl activity by making Love Bugs and collecting data!
Now all I need are my 1st grade friends so our special day can begin!
