Froggy at School and a "freebie"!

Today Froggie came to school!  The children just love his stories and together we spent the day reading, writing and working with words.  It was our first introduction to the Daily Five so choices were not really available as we were modeling what the rotation would look like and the RULES and expectations.

Enjoy "blog hoppin'" with me!

This week on the "Blog Hoppin'" the topic is Back To School Books.
Yep I'm back to school and yep, it is overwhelming.
Being a "Blog Hopper" sure helps those as it helps share so many great ideas.
Favorite back to school books for me:
Have fun enjoying a list of "firsts" including the first day of 1st grade!
For the teacher this is a "must read"!  In my mind teachers can never draw pictures as priceless as their students!

Grandparent's Day is on it's way! ....and a freebie!

Grandparents are special and this packet  is filled with activities to prove it!
Click here to purchase packet on TpT

One of my favorite is an adorable card and poem for  grandparents.

Freebie Friday

I love finding out about my students right away in hopes of preparing materials that will interest and motivate them.  So I hope you do too.  Here is one of my packets for you ...FREE because I so appreciate your following me!!

First Day Jitters

Well that I had!  Not "jitters" about teaching but goodness I forgot how much time goes into getting ready for Open House and the first day. I had the "jitters' that I would never get everything done.  Needless to say that is also why I have not been on my blog.  Found this as I was looking for a first day treat and it was a hit.  Thank you Abby Mullins!! I thought you might enjoy it even if not until next year. Michele

Each child got a mini can of 7up along with a glass of ice and a straw.
It was sooooo much fun.
Oops by mistake I bought diet.  I was hoping the kids didn't notice. LOL

A "freebie" for organization.

Every year I send a few of these home with parents to
help keep notes on  a similar paper so they
don't get lost in the shuffle.
For a free copy click here.
Also just printed this off for my parents!!

Give yourselves a hand!!

Being a teacher deserves a "big hand"!
The middle and big hands sit around my room.
When I catch someone doing something special
I "give them a hand"!
These were purchased at Party City.

I LOVE vocabulary.  I feel it is
key to educational success.
With every book I introduce I
try to pick out key vocabulary for ABC order,
definition, syllables, etc.  I found these pocket
charts at Target for $1.00.  Perfect for hanging
vocabulary words.

1st Day is on it's way and a "freebie"!

We are going to start the year with the story the Kissing Hand.
I will certainly want to go over the vocabulary words.
Next we will tour the school using the clues Chester left us.
And then a little craft to hang.
Working With Words with focus on -ed and -ing.

What do you and Chester do?
During the day and at night.
There are activities for Opposites...

Working in partners the students will spin and discuss parts of the story.
I love having students work in partners.  It is a great way to build communication skills.

In math we will be collecting data and recording how we felt on the first day.

Chester is going to bring each student a cupcake.

Students will find these on their desks when they arrive.
