Super Bowl Freebie!!

I just spent the last two days at the Ohio Educational Technology Conference in Columbus, Ohio.  It was very informative and I can't wait to share some of the great things I learned.  I really need to bring a bit of my "tech" into this blog.  I am fully committed to helping my kiddos become 21st Century Digital Learners.  In between sessions I created a "BIG" freebie for you.  It is 14 pages of activities for the perfect Super Bowl Friday with your class!  I hope you will enjoy it.  Please check back Thursday for more Super Bowl announcements.  Michele

Arctic Animal Babies...

Today we talked about baby animals in the snow.  This book is an absolute favorite of mine with priceless pictures, names for the babies, and a special fact about each animal.  We followed it up with this worksheet and then making a "calf" walrus.

This is a link to an amazing video to begin the lesson.  The pictures are sensational.

Common Core Insert

This is great to have available and at your fingertips. To the right is the "widget" and this can be embedded on your site.

Off to the Arctic...

As the Arctic blast continues to hit us we are snug in the classroom beginning our unit on the Arctic habitat.  Today was the basic introduction to the animals that live in the Arctic and how they are alike and different.  We ended the lesson with these cute little Polar Bears similar to those from Glyph Girls.  They have the cutest things!!  Tomorrow we will divide into groups and work on research using text. I've gathered up some simple books with informational text and copied some simple facts from websites.  Thursday they will use the Internet to gather facts.

Martin Luther King...

Monday is Martin Luther King Day and ...another NO SCHOOL Day.  But in honor of this Nobel Prize Leader we spent the day honoring him.  Scholastic and Brain Pop Jr. both have appropriate videos for the primary child.  We also shared informational text and then did a little writing.

To clarify equality and respecting differences in all people read the book...The Crayon Box that Talked.  It is so appropriate for this age level and introducing the idea of respect for individual differences.
I do have a packet available that blends Dr. Martin Luther King and this special story if you are interested.

Writing Assessments

Our primary grades are giving our State writing assessment this week.  After not being in school for 3 weeks I am afraid my kiddos will need a little practice before we complete the State packet.  I created three little practice sheets.  I thought maybe some of you could use a copy of them to file for later or use for your writing center.  Enjoy!

Updating "look and feel"!

Well as you can see I have spent way too much time in the last two days trying to update my blog.  I am ready to give it up to a professional.  Oh well, be patient with me.  In the end I will come up with something.  It has been 3 weeks since I have been at school.  My turtles are probably starving and freezing...hope they remembered how to hibernate.I am actually a  little nervous about seeing the kiddos again.  I feel like the First Day Jitters!!  I will be back tomorrow or Sunday with more ideas for you!  Michele

Snow Day!! Again!!!!...More freebies!!!

Okay so I need to get back to work. Tomorrow we have another snow day.  I am not sure about getting the kids back for one day.  I'm thinking at this point it might be better to just call it a week and then start Monday.  My New Year Day is about to be delayed now until Friday.  Arrrrgh...I talked with my teaching buddy today and we have some fun planned soon as we return.
But since I had a few minutes here is a new little item.  I am excited about it because I always have those kiddos who finish early and say...What can I do now?  Not that I don't "love" them but I'm trying to conference or work with groups and plan for them at the same time.  Now...Problem solved!!  Enjoy  Michele
