This year I have really focused on helping my students read and write using informational text.  For a little extra practice I created these sheets  shown in the sample.  The one shown here is on ants but there is a section on ladybugs, butterflies and frogs too!  I create my own mini books for reading the informational text and then practice writing about facts in the text.  For you I have included a few pieces of the Frog Life Cycle.  I hope you can enjoy it!  We are ending our third quarter so guess what I will be doing this weekend??!!  Michele

Thinking Ahead and a "freebie"!

I was thinking ahead this weekend and decided to do a new packet on Earth Day.  It is filled with activities everything needed for a balanced literacy based week.  This has worked so well for me this year.  I have embedded all my science and social studies standards into my Literacy Program and I love it.  Students can read and write about these critical pieces of information.  Guided Reading can enhance the theme, videos can enrich understanding about the topic, essential questions can help students make connections and build meaning.  This done you can work in vocabulary related to the theme (Word Work), writing about the theme and finally reading related leveled readers.  Can't think of a better way to spend the morning and to gain real information and understanding about our science and social studies standards.  This being said welcome to Earth Day...Let's Celebrate!

This is a wonderful way to build vocabulary and assess student understanding of the concepts presented.

Friday FINALLY! freebie too!

Sometimes a week with the leprechaun can be exhausting!!  So my title says it all.  It is finally Friday!!
Next week is one of my favorites.  Each day we will focus on a story.  Our reading, writing and word work will be embedded in the theme!  I may have shared this freebie before but for those who did not get it I will add it again. Have a great weekend everyone!! Michele

Potato fun!

We are ending our week on St. Patrick's tomorrow.  It has been so exciting and a wonderful learning experience as we visited Ireland, stretched our vocabulary and practiced reading and writing with our leprechaun friend.  Today we will have the "potato race".  Perfect fit with the Force and Motion Unit we are currently completing. (Speed, friction, size, motion)  We also learned how to plant and grow a potato.  Pretty great experiences that embed the Common Core.  For the story we are talking about the character.  What he sees, feels, thinks and does.  Enjoy your day!  Michele

This little guy leaves us a treat and a note each day.

Students entered today with a treat and a game to play quietly at their seats.

Vocabulary we are learning to read and spell.
