Autumn is amazing if you live where there are four distinct seasons.

But even if not it is an ideal opportunity to share with students how nature prepares for winter.

This resource embeds the science of Autumn and Why Leaves Change Color into a Literacy Packet.

It helps save time because there is no need to teach science and language arts separately.  I think the activities are ones your class will enjoy.

I like to begin with informational text.  

The resource includes mini books to prepare for each student.

One on the apple tree and another on the season of Autumn.

These booklets are wonderful because:

Key words and text can be highlighted.

They can be read and reread.

Students can use them to find answers to the T/F.

Graphic organizers are provided to put down key facts that support student writing.

And I love the word work activities that can be done in whole groups, small groups or centers.

All vocabulary relates to key words from the theme.

Next there is an adorable poem and a comprehension activity that follows reading the poem.
