Building Comprehension Strategies with The Little Red Hen!

This packet focused on four of my favorite Little Red Hen stories.
Each of these stories is also on YouTube.
The story is ideal for:
Comparing and Contrasting
Identifying unique behaviors in individuals
Exploring feelings
And even building creativity...Did you know The Little Red Hen was a Great Grandmother and had a cookbook titled...The Art of Cooking Alone.
( In that one sentence I could do an entire lesson! )
The activités I created are open for all levels of learners...pictures, words, complete sentences.
This is perfect for pairing readers with early readers.

And look at this cutie!!
I am so going to make this.
Thank you Stacey!!

Amazing! Fun Stuff to Build Comprehension!

If you have read the Little Red Hen this activity is amazing.
We made the characters and props.  Put them on sticks and the children practiced  "retelling" the story using EXPRESSION!  Wow, we had some amazing character voices.  Following that we read the story again.
What a difference.  So cute.  It was perfect for sharing how reading and rereading really can help make a difference.
Then if you are allowed to show UTube Videos this is a super retelling of the story.

The children the "wrote" the retelling of the story with Flip Books.
But best of all...the grains of wheat are sprouting in our straws.  YIPEE!

The Little Red Hen...what did she plant?

In our Word Work center today we had fun spinning a word related to plants and then playing TicTacToe.  We used seeds for the markers!  What fun.

We also read The Little Red Hen.  Before we read the story the children wrote  what they remembered about the story.  Following the reading we added one detail we had forgotten to share.  Then we created these adorable "hens"!

To complete the theme we planted a wheat seed.  Each student was given a straw, a square of paper towel and a wheat seed.  The towel gets folded and twisted into the straw leaving a little out for the water to soak in.  The seed is then dropped into the straw and put in a cup of water.  Now...let the growing begin!
