Exploring Weather and Sunshine

Exploring weather and sunshine meets the NGSS for KDG.

K-ESS3-2, K-ESS2-1, K-ESS2-2, K-PS3-1, K-PS3-2

And despite the fact it is specifically designed to meet these standards it would also be ideal for 1st grade if you teach weather or collect data.
Vocabulary is so important.  One reasons students often do poorly on assessments is not understanding key vocabulary words.  The vocabulary cards are colorful and include pictures.
There are also three activities that provide word work.
ABC Order, Word Search, Making Words
There is a poster with all of the concepts to be taught for posting.
I have also provided a student cover if you want your class to collect all the information in one packet.  A parent letter explains to parents what the class will be learning about and how they can support these concepts at home.  Finally there is informational text for students.

Each standard has a poster for displaying in the classroom as well as two to three activities.
The main idea is to IMAGINE, THINK ABOUT IT and EXPLORE.

Complete lesson plans accompany each standard as well as posters for discussion and collecting student predictions.  I use sticky notes and students put their sticky note with their name on the picture that meets their prediction.

The weather standard is so much fun!
Students will observe the weather, collect data, measure weather and practice forecasting.
They will discuss where weather predictions can be found and how the weather impacts them.

Another standard is talking about severe weather and how it can be dangerous.
Different storms take place in different parts of the nation.

The final standard talks about sunshine and the effect it has on the Earth's surface.
There is an experiment for students and activities that review the main idea.
