Do you have room for one more?

I wish I had more time to do one more but the weekend has come to an end.  It sure was a wonderful one even though my favorite team lost our first Big 10 game.  Booooo!!  Once a cheerleader, always a cheerleader. But as far as getting my October items ready I finished up Room on a Broom!  You gotta love this story.  The packet contains a Reader's Theater, Craft and lots of Activities.  Tomorrow I will post a "freebie" from it if you stop back by.  Bet you'll have "room" for one! Let's take a vote.  What one thing from the packet do you want for free?

My House

Today starts our unit on Communities and Community Helpers.  I just love this first project.  Following a homework assignment that helps them to gather data about their house and their neighborhood the children each prepare and illustration of their house.  These are displayed right next to our illustrations of our families.
Junior Achievement came today and did lesson one on families and the neighborhoods they live in.
It is always exciting to have members of the community come share with us. Do any of you take advantage of this organization.  The materials they share are fabulous.  Michele

Apple printing...messy business BUT!

Next week we are off to the apple orchard.  Each year we print apple shirts for the entire class to wear.
They work as name tags, a fun project and makes it easy to spot our students.
Apple printing is messy business BUT...

The end results are awesome!

Monday Grandparent's Day Luncheon

Well the Grandparents lunch was a huge success.  I have 23 students in my classroom and I had 50 grandparents, 2 parents and 3 preschool children attend the event which was in my tiny classroom.
As you can imagine it was a tad crowded but exciting.
They were greeted with our "hugs and kisses" as well as their grandchild.  I took their picture and then they took a minute to look around the classroom.

We had fun looking at all of the changes that have taken place since they were in school.  ( I must say some of those grandparents looked awful young.  I am not getting old am I? LOL)
Next I gave prizes for:
The grandparent who came the farthest. (Italy)
The grandparent with the most children. (11)
The grandparent with the most grandchildren. (28)
The most "mature" grandparent. (92) WOW!!
We then took a look at my website and they were asked to sign a release so that I could post a "smilebox" of the event on our calendar.
My Website
The day ended with my favorite song I Thing You're Wonderful from Teaching Peace.
Listen to the Song
And from my heart it is true...My goal with the students is to have them feel special and wonderful each and every day they are in my classroom!

Got the idea for these cute animals from the Scrappin' Doodles Clip Art.
This is a great way to build vocabulary as well as develop writing skills.
