Daylight Savings Time!

Daylight Savings Time  was designed with the purpose of making better use of daylight and conserving energy.  
As they say...Fall back!  Spring ahead!
Today, Daylight Savings Time starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November.

Benjamin Franklin the American Inventor and Politician wrote an essay called “An Economical Project for Diminishing the Cost of Light” to the editor of The Journal of Paris in 1784. In the essay, he suggested that Parisians could economize candle usage by getting people out of bed earlier in the morning, making use of the natural morning light instead. I love this story and it has so many pieces that can be used in the literacy center.

The craft is a cute frog.  There is a tic, tac, toe game and 12 colorful vocabulary cards for posting.

These pieces are so much fun.

Print, laminate, retell sequence and more!

Activities are cut and paste and cover the comprehension skills of sequencing and cause and effect.

Word work is plentiful.

Let's Write...April...ELA CCSS

Let's Write!

This program will greatly enhance your students writing ability.

There are two sections:

The workbook where students gather ideas, work on grammar skills to embed in writing, and "sloppy" copies they can edit.

The second part is the Journal where their final copies go.  These are the pages they can be proud to share after their work has been edited.

April focuses on sentence structure, pronouns, adjectives and proper nouns.

While editing their work they check that these have been used correctly.

They also include practice pages.

There are four lessons in each packet.

Each lessons focuses on a style of writing, includes graphic organizers and differentiated writing pages.  Lesson plans are included as well as a literature suggestion to get students engaged and interested right from the beginning

Froggy Stories...Author Jonathan London!

When you want to giggle and feel that making a mistake is okay, Froggy stories are just what you want!  Froggy is a favorite of most every child and adults love sharing them.

The packet contains colorful vocabulary for writing which is helpful as students create opinion, narrative, and how to stories.

There is also an article on Jonathan London.  Children will enjoy learning more about this special author.

I LOVE the crafts.  They make a perfect bulletin board or are so cute hanging in the classroom.

The packet covers many but not all of the Froggy stories.

Frog and Toad...Author Arnold Lobel

Who does not LOVE Frog and Toad?

No matter the age these are timeless stories.

They teach of friendship and sharing which always warms my heart.

Lower level readers enjoy them because they feel like they are reading chapter books!

There are three adorable crafts for posting.

The vocabulary is colorful and fun for posting.

There is also author information on Arnold Lobel.

Each chapter book begins with a page for students to identify their favorite chapter and share why.

I like to do this before reading and say what attracts you about the chapter's title.

Then there are comprehension and writing activities that accompany each book.

Due to the size of the slide I could only show a few for each book.

Word work is focused on vocabulary from the stories.

Syllables, Rhyme, Parts of Speech, Antonym/Synonyms, Making Words, Definitions, ABC Word and a Word Search.

I included science in  this packet.

There is a mini book on Frogs and Toads...identifying characteristics, life cycles, diet, definition of amphibian.

There is a life cycle activity for both the frog and the toad.

There is a compare and contrast page with cut and past features.
