Teaching Comprehension Strategies with Favorite Scarecrow Stories...October

Each month I LOVE to emphasize comprehension strategies with favorite literature that fits with the season and month.  October focuses on SCARECROWS.
These stories are delightful and can most likely be found in your school library.
If not most of them are found read online.

Remember this action poem?
Scarecrow, scarecrow turn around.
Scarecrow, scarecrow touch the ground.
Scarecrow, scarecrow reach up high.
Scarecrow, scarecrow touch the sky.
Scarecrow, scarecrow touch your toes.
 Scarecrow, scarecrow tap your nose.
Swing your arms so very slow,
now real fast to scare the crows!
Touch your head, jump up and down.
Now sit down without a sound.

The four used in this packet are Scarecrow, Lonely Scarecrow, the Scarecrow's Hat, and Little Scarecrow Boy.
To accompany the packet there are vocabulary cards as well as a scarecrow craft.

Notice that each story focuses on three comprehension strategies.
There are cards for posting in your "I can" section and activities to practice each strategy.
