In like a lion and out like a lamb!!

Writing about March with adorable page toppers to accompany your writing.

Check out the simple yet cute lion and lamb.

Using the poem by Lori Hill students will write about March coming in like a lion and making comparisons and going out like a lamb.
They will use a bit of creativity to write about their own animal they would use to begin and end March.

There are pre writes and final writes as well as self correction grids.

As a bonus there are activities on rabbits and the Easter Bunny.
Great for centers or whole group.
Perfect for decorating your room.

It's almost November...Time to "talk turkey"!

This time of the year is perfect for allowing our kiddos to CREATE and IMAGINE.
Two areas that promote thinking...outside the box!

Here are four of my favorite stories to read!
Each one is perfect for "talking turkey"!
One of my all time favorites is 'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving.
Here is a complete freebie for you to accompany this story.

The other story I think is so enjoyable for the kiddos is Turkey Trouble.
What fun it is to create a board with all of the student's "turkey disguises"!
I have created a template for you to use. What could I be?  I suggest that you make a cardboard template for each student and then provide paper for them to create.  Some teachers send this home as a homework assignment.  You decide.  What a great way to have the kiddos use their imagination.
10 Fat Turkeys gives many more ideas on what a disguise could be.

Students can also create a turkey with this simple pattern.  Perfect for a bulletin board or for hanging in your classroom.  The patterns are included in the packet below. (FREE)

I like to post this with the turkey craft.  What would a turkey be thankful for?
This poem is delightful and fun for the kiddos to read together.  It is followed by using this text to "talk" with the turkey.

The packet ends with...
If I were a turkey...
and what does a turkey think of people...how would a turkey complete this activity?

I hope you will enjoy these activities.  They allow for creative thinking and the use of the imagination.  CREATE AND IMAGINE ...open opportunities for your class to "think outside the box"!

ENJOY!!

Tall Tales for the primary Child

I love introducing different genes to the class for reading.
One of my favorites is Tall Tales.
They are perfect for introducing exaggerations and descriptive words.
The trouble was that I found it very difficult to find literature that was at their level for reading.
So...I put my creative mind together and came up with this packet.

Each character has an outline page describing them, a mini book, and some form of recall or assessment.
These are followed with a craft.
I love decorating our room with tall tale characters.

Each character also has...vocabulary work (definitions), colorful vocabulary cards for posting, a writing page and then a math activity.

The packet ends with the kiddos writing their own tall tale or about one of the tall tale characters for a class book.
There are pages to experiment with exaggerations, a word work page and a quick formative assessment.
Not shown on the slides because I ran out of room are the graphic organizers for gathering information.

We always love to end the unit with a pancake breakfast.
We make pancakes in our "mess hall" using griddles.
I invite the students to dress as tall tale characters.

Valentine Excitement and a FREEBIE!

This packet is filled with activities using a Valentine theme. The activities build on curriculum and common core skills. There are activities for centers, whole groups, partners and independent. Each subject area is covered. Let's take a peek!!

The crafts are so cute and so simple.  Patterns are available.
Sorry about the red underline above BUT.... I guess spell check does not recognize "toad"ally!!

Here are just a few of the activities.  I think the vocabulary cars are so cute and I use the page included above to mark my word work center.

The math activities are ideal for partner games and more.  There are three different data collection activities.  I also included a helpful hints page for those who need it.
Each game includes a record keeping sheet for you to check for accuracy!

I love encouraging students to use text to gather information.  These activities are perfect because the students can underline text and vocabulary they are not familiar with.  Here are a couple samples.

Check out some of the creative writing activities.  These are perfect for center work.  Again the page above can be used to mark your writing center.

And look at these delightful reading suggestions!!
Each story has comprehension activities to follow the read aloud.
