Labor Day!!

Why do I love the Interactive Google slides?
Together with the Paper Pencil resource I have the perfect classroom team!
Most every classroom now has a white board in their classroom.
So I love using these on the white board with my 1st graders to introduce the topic and promote engagement .

Slide One Is a KWL chart.
Older students can complete this on their own but for the younger students have them work it as a whole group.
What do we know about Labor Day?
What do we wonder?
I will come back to this later after the lesson (day) is ending.
**Note: This resource and many others I create are meant to be all inclusive and promote a full day filled with curriculum.

Slide Two begins with the Informational Text.
I invite a student to read the text or I read the text.
After reading we take time to use the text to help us complete the chart.
What might I see, hear, taste?
**Note: This text is also available in the paper pencil resource so the students can read along with you and highlight key points in the text.
There is also a sheet just like the  on here for students to interact with.

Slide Three has more informational text that we read together.
This encourages discussion to follow.
I like using an ABC order page for "word work".
**Note in the paper pencil resource there is this same activity for students to complete.
We use this interactive page which students come up and put words in order.   Students may then correct their work.

Slide Four is the final page of Informational Text.
It can be followed up with the is it a question or a statement.
**Note: Students can work along with you using the paper pencil resource.
As you complete this activity you are repeating facts about Labor Day for students to remember important items.

Slide Five compares students daily responsibility to laborers.
Example:
Their job is to go to school.
School is the workplace.
Learning is their responsibility.
As we discuss this I make notes on the page as to what would they change to make school a better place to learn.  This is then visual for them to support their writing.
**Note our writing for today relates to this topic and I use the paper pencil resource which includes differentiated pages for student writing and a cover so you can make a class book!

Slide Six discusses the definition of a union.
We use parents/home as a comparison.
What conditions would you change at home.
Again I use the sheet to write student ideas down.
I use this more as a comparison for student ideas to help them understand a union.

Slide Seven and Eight are a boy and a girl.
What do you want to be when you grow up and what will your responsibility be.
I only use this to describe what they are to do.
**Note using the paper pencil resource I have students draw or write and we hang these not their locker.

Slide Nine is something they can do in the computer center.
**Note there are identical pages in the paper pencil resource but I love this for them to interact with.

Slide Ten is parts of speech.
Again another choice for "word work" and might be on the computer in the literacy center.

When you have completed your day go back and complete you KWL chart correcting misconceptions and sharing what they learned!

These slides can also be used for distant learning or with your more advance students who need enrichment.

Take a peek at all the wonderful activities and how they connect to the Interactive Slides above!!
**Note this resource also includes two math games that support mathematics on the day you are teaching about Labor Day. One supports addition and they other subtraction.
They are to be played with a partner.

Best thing of all about this bundle!!
Purchase it and the Interactive Google Slides are actually FREE!
