Native Americans

In so many ways we are alike yet different.
Their lives were affected by their location and the climate.
This resource is filled with informational text that will engage students in learning about three areas of settlement and three specific tribes.  
The one you see here is the Woodland/Iroquois group.
There is also:  Plains/Sioux   Southwest/Pueblo
Slide One:  Shares location and students compare where they live in the USA.
Slide Two:  Shares the types of homes the Iroquois lived in and have students compare to the type of home they live in.
Slide Three:  Shares how they survived hunting and fishing and then has the students add details to the graphic organizer about hunting and their homes.
Slide Four:  Shares the clothing of this group.  Students label the names for the articles of clothing.
Slide Five:  Shares information about how they traveled and students then use a graphic organizer to review information about this group.
Each interactive slide show is similar yet designed to individually introduce the students to the three tribes  using a variety of interactive activities.






This packet covers three groups of Native Americans from three parts of the United States...the Woodland, the Plains, and the Southwest.

Each group has a mini book filled with informational text and highlighted vocabulary. 

They are ideal for guided reading with your class.

Native Americans...Informational Text, Activities and Crafts


This packet includes three groups of Native Americans.
Woodland, Plains, Southwest
Each group includes information on a tribe from the area.
Woodland: Iroquois
Plains: Sioux
Southwest: Pueblo
Students will enjoy learning about different groups of Native Americans and how the land and wildlife influenced the way they lived. 
 The packet includes vocabulary cards for posting as well as an ABC Order and a Word Search.

The First Thanksgiving

The perfect November packet filled with informational text for guided reading, comprehension activities, graphic organizers for gathering key facts, writing and word work.
Ideal for embedding your curriculum into a current theme.

Check out this cute page toppers, or they could be used as a craft, for showcasing your student writing. Simple and patterns are included.

There are so many wonderful literature pieces for read aloud time.

There is a mini book and two print, fold and read booklets for gathering facts.
I love these materials for guided reading.
Students can highlight key facts, highlight vocabulary as well as read and reread the story.
These texts are followed by True/False Reading for Detail.  I love using this for assessment as well as encouraging students to go back through the text to find the correct answers.
There is a time line and two activities for making connections.

Again I encourage students to use their text.
With students needing more support we complete one together using the text.
Directly below you will find the final write pages differentiated for leveled writers.

The First Thanksgiving...An educational packet for the primary child.

This packet is designed specifically to help educate the primary child about the First Thanksgiving.

Book suggestions are ideal for getting a realistic look at the life of the two groups of Americans in our early country.
The packet has informational text about the First Thanksgiving.
There is a True/False page for assessment and a sequence page that could be used for assessment as well.

After reading and gathering facts students will make connections between THEIR life and the lives of the Americans long ago.

There is an informational text book comparing and contrasting the Colonial Americans with the Native Americans.  Think of it as how we are ALIKE yet DIFFERENT.

Students will create posters about a Colonial American child and a Native American child.

Students will use graphic organizers to recall facts about the First Thanksgiving.

Students will use graphic organizers to recall facts about what they are THANKFUL FOR.

Using the ideas they gathered they will prepare final writes.
There are class cover books for creating a class book.

Word work is also included.

Finally there are vocabulary words for posting and a data collection activity for your class.
Students can also make these adorable page topers to display their writing.

Native Americans

This unit offers a number of activities to teach the primary child about life with the Native Americans and how they depended on the land and the climate where they lived to survive.

Each group has informational text sharing with students about where in the USA the group lived, what their houses were like, what they ate, and how they dressed.

They also have graphic organizers for collecting information and true/false for assessment.

There is also a class book cover for writing pages for each student.
I also have included a piece of literature that shares about the culture of each group.

There is word work in the form of word search, ABC Order, Singular and Plural as well as parts of speech.

The packet ends with activities such as the definition of tribe and comparing it to todays neighborhood, picture writing, matching objects to the group and dress.

The craft includes two adorable Native Americans.
Colorful vocabulary is also included.

This packet is ideal to informing your class about the history behind the "First Thanksgiving" and information about the Colonial and Native Americans.

There is a mini book filled with informational text.
The sequence page helps the students understand the sequencing of events.

The Native and Colonial Americans are compared and contrasted in the mini book filled with informational text.
There are then pages for your class to compare themselves to each of the groups.
It is followed by a data collection on which group the children would rather belong to.

This on is on the First Thanksgiving.  There is another on I am thankful for with a different graphic organizer.

The students will have an opportunity to write and gather their thoughts about the children of each group.
